Gamble Garden is a fun and rewarding place to volunteer – and it is a community where your help is truly appreciated. Our volunteers enjoy a supportive, educational, and caring community where they connect, contribute and thrive! Please read the information below to learn about our volunteer opportunities. VOLUNTEERS KEEP THE GARDEN GROWING!

Over 400 volunteers spend 40,000 hours a year supporting Gamble Garden by maintaining the historic house and gardens and facilitating ongoing programs and events.

GARDEN VOLUNTEER

Join the “Dirty Knees Brigade”. Some knowledge of gardening is helpful, but not necessary. Enjoy social brown bag lunches and informative walks through the garden with the Garden Director and other experts. 3 hours/week on:

  • Tuesday, 9 am – 12 pm
  • Wednesday, 9 am – 12 pm
  • Thursday, 6 – 8 pm
  • fourth Saturday of each month, 9 am – 12 pm

SUPPORT SPECIAL EVENTS

  • Garden Fresh Luncheons – assist or cook in the kitchen, dress tables, seat or serve patrons at our sold out luncheons. 2nd Wednesday of the month, March to June, September, October, and five special Holiday Luncheons in December.
  • Second Saturday – Lead garden tours for adults and nature hunts for families; welcome guests at our registration table; run nature craft tables and hands-on activities; demonstrate science topics; serve as a history docent in the Elizabeth Gamble house; coordinate guide training and guide appreciation events.
  • Spring Tour & Winter Festival – help in our biggest annual event and fundraiser which invites the community to tour local showcase gardens. Join over 200 volunteers in everything from planning to day-of events. Day-of activities include garden docents, cashiers, plant sales, luncheons, and more.
  • Over the Garden Fence – Help collect, tag and repair gently-used furniture, antiques, collectibles, artwork, home décor, china, linens, garden accessories and more throughout the year for “Over the Garden Fence,” our biannual estate sale held during Spring Tour and Winter Festival.

ASSIST IN THE GARDEN & HOUSE

  • Garden Guide – lead tours of the estate and gardens for adults and childresn. Training sessions will help you learn more about Gamble Garden, its history, and the horticultural details of this beautiful estate. 1-hour tours, 2 times a month.
  • Horticultural Library Volunteer – help organize and maintain our horticultural collection.
  • Floral Arranging – Experience, skill, and ability to work independently required.
  • Office Volunteer – assist with mailings, answering phones, greeting visitors, and occasional phone outreach or take on special projects like digitizing files and organization. Some experience with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Spot Job and Special Project Volunteer – wherever and whenever there is a need – in the garden, in the office, at events or classes.

WORK AND PLAY AT CHILDREN’S EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

  • Roots & Shoots Field Trips – work with elementary students and share your love of gardening.
  • Children’s Events – lend an encouraging hand at a puppet show, Easter party, Halloween party, and other themed events held throughout the year.
  • Garden Guide – Work with families and school-age children to inspire and promote understanding of plants, garden critters, and environmental conservation using our urban garden as a learning laboratory. Docent training provided.

JOIN A COMMITTEE

Be part of a group of volunteer Gamble Garden supporters who meet regularly to plan, organize, and staff programs and activities.

  • Education – plan, develop, and host garden-related classes.
  • Fundraising – Join the Endowment Committee to become a steward of Gamble Garden’s Endowment Fund, or help us plan our Winter Festival Fundraising Event.
  • Marketing Committee – bring your marketing and PR skills to help support and elevate Gamble’s many programs and events. Professional experience required.
  • Membership Outreach – oversee membership development and member benefits.
  • Second Saturday Leadership Committee
  • Volunteer Outreach – recruit and coordinate new volunteers and support ongoing volunteer activities.
