Information for creating art in the garden

Individual photographers and artists are welcome to create work in Gamble Garden for non-commercial use. As a self-supporting public garden, donations are greatly appreciated to help us care for this shared space.

Please note that access to certain areas may be limited on weekends due to private events, particularly in the formal gardens beginning at noon. Access to specific locations is at the discretion of the Garden Director, and visitors may be asked to relocate if needed. We recommend checking with the office at least two weeks in advance of your visit.

To help preserve the Garden for all, we ask that the following guidelines be observed:

General Guidelines

  • Areas marked “Private Party” are closed to the public.
  • No dance or performance video shoots.
  • One photoshoot per photographer per day; multi-session or sign-up shoots are not permitted.
  • No equipment such as lighting, props, or staging is allowed.
  • Balloons, confetti, outside flowers, and other materials that may create litter are not permitted.
  • Stay on pathways at all times; garden beds are not to be entered.
  • Do not attach nails, tacks, staples, or tape to any garden structures.
  • Furniture, benches, picnic tables, and signage must remain in place.
  • Plants, flowers, and fruit may not be picked, moved, or pruned.

Group Size & Conduct

  • Groups are limited to 10 people or fewer.
  • Children must be supervised at all times. For children age 5 and under, we recommend one adult per child within small groups.
  • Please follow all posted Visitor Policies.

Facilities

  • Restrooms are available to the public Monday–Friday, 9:00 am–2:00 pm.
  • No smoking is permitted anywhere on the property.

Painter-Specific

  • Painters may utilize acrylic, oil, pastel, or watercolor paints
  • Avoid setting up on brick or tile surfaces
  • Surfaces (counters, raised beds, tables, and benches) must be protected with a tarp
  • Artists must provide their own water and clean supplies off-site
  • All wastewater and materials must be removed from the property for proper disposal
