Celebrate the beauty of irises in this relaxed watercolor workshop at Gamble Garden. Inspired by Gamble Garden’s signature flower, the iris, this class invites you to explore the graceful shapes, flowing leaves, and rich purples and blues that make this bloom so special.

Artist and instructor Jean Choe will guide the class step by step, beginning with beginner-friendly watercolor exercises to build confidence with brushwork, layering, and color mixing. To make painting feel approachable and fun, pre-outlined pages will be provided, with the option to sketch your own if you would like.

This workshop is welcoming to all levels, whether you’re new to watercolor or simply looking to enjoy a peaceful, creative morning surrounded by garden inspiration. All supplies are provided. Suitable for ages 13 and up. Bring your curiosity and enjoy painting one of Gamble Garden’s most beloved flowers.

Instructor Bio

Jean Choe is a watercolor artist and instructor based in San Mateo. Known for her vibrant, nature-inspired artwork and encouraging teaching style, Jean creates a welcoming space where anyone can enjoy painting—no experience needed. Her workshops are thoughtfully designed to help people slow down, connect with creativity, and leave with something they’re proud of. Jean has taught for organizations including the San Mateo County Library system, Redwood City Library, and Swirl Works, and regularly leads watercolor workshops throughout the Bay Area. When she’s not teaching, she runs her art business, Jean Choe Art & Design, where she turns her original paintings into prints, cards, and watercolor kits that celebrate everyday beauty.
