Did you know that many of the world’s most important commercial crops – like potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, sweet and hot peppers and tobacco – come from the same family of plants?  And that some important (and in some cases irreplaceable) drugs like scopolamine, atropine, nicotine and capsaicin are also produced by those plants? Join us for a stroll through Gamble Garden’s collection of Solanaceous plants (the Nightshade or Tomato Family) to learn about the history, biology and use of these amazing plants, which range from the delicious to the lethal.

INSTRUCTOR:

Dr Doug Kalish is a long-time supporter and volunteer at Gamble Garden. He has a PhD in Biology and spent most of his working career in information technology and knowledge management.
