NATURE HUNTS for young families

Nature Hunts are wonderful for all ages but ideal for kids 3-10 years old and their grown-ups.

Many creatures visit Gamble Garden for food, nesting or resting. Join Garden Director Richard Hayden and our Gamble Guides as we explore the many animals and plants that can be found throughout the garden. We’ll get our “nature eyes” working as we explore, look for birds and pollinators, overturn rocks and logs, and discover the many different ways the garden provides habitat for animals, both big and small. In addition, children can enjoy nature crafts inspired by the plants and animals at Gamble.

Bring binoculars and a magnifier if you have them. If it’s raining, bring your rain boots.

Garden Tours for Adults

Wander through time and beauty.  Join our educational garden tour to get a closer look at Elizabeth’s garden

Our 30-minute guided tours run continuously starting at 10 AM.  Tours will depart from the Carriage House. We lead our tours rain or shine. During the rainy season, we encourage you to bring your poncho and rain boots!  Please register below.

Get your competitive spirit fired up and join our Worm Measuring Contest! We’re stocking a compost bin with earthworm “contestants”. Kids will use trowels to dig and find the longest earthworm. Each worm’s length will be recorded alongside the name of its discoverer. After a winner is announced, the worms will be returned to the soil.

Children can enjoy nature crafts inspired by the plants and animals at Gamble.

Tour the first floor of the Gamble Garden house, built in 1902, to see what life was like in Palo Alto, 100 years ago. Our house docents are on hand to share stories of old and answer questions.

Schola Cantorum carolers

Beginning at 11am, enjoy listening to carolers from the acclaimed Schola Cantorum chorus.

holiday greens sales

The annual Holiday Greens Sale is one of Gamble Garden’s greatest traditions, so come and join us, rain or shine! We will be offering fresh cut greens to deck your halls, potted paperwhites, wreaths, swags and more. In addition, we will be selling sweet peas, succulent containers, and potting benches.

Gamble’s expert flowers arrangers will be in the Tea House designing fresh centerpieces filled with greens. Arrangements start at $30.

Arrangements are custom made in either a container you provide or one you purchase the day of the sale. Drop off your container in the Main House between Monday and Friday the week of Greens Sale between 9:00am-11:00am.

Your arrangement will be ready for purchase and pick up on Saturday between 9am and 12pm at the Tea House.
