Gamble Garden welcomes you to spend a beautiful August morning with us, tasting a variety of locally grown tomatoes! In addition to the tomato tasting, there will be Family Nature Hunts and Garden Tours for all ages, throughout our unique three-acre garden. Second Saturdays are free and open to all. Please register below.
Taste a variety of cherry and heirloom tomatoes and vote for your favorite. Last year’s winner was “Sun Sugar”, followed by “Pink Bumblebee” and “White Currant”.
SPECIALTY GARDEN TOUR: FOCUS ON NIGHTSHADES
This month’s Garden Tour for adults will provide a fascinating complement to tomato tasting. Did you know the Solanaceae family of flowering plants, also referred to as nightshades, includes not only tomatoes but peppers, eggplant, potatoes, tomatillo, and tobacco? Humans have adopted these plants for many uses, both helpful and harmful. Join Dr. Doug Kalish to observe, learn and enjoy the beauty and special properties of these plants. The Nightshade Tour will be offered at 10 AM, 10:30 AM, and 11 AM. Appropriate for adults and older children. Tours will depart from the white Pop-Up Tent.
Free GUIDED NATURE TOURS FOR FAMILIEs
Many creatures visit Gamble Garden for food, nesting or resting. Join Garden Director Richard Hayden and our Garden Guides as we search for edible plants around the garden. The Nature Hunt is ideal for families with children ages 3-10.
NATURE ACTIVITY table
Hands-on activities and fun nature crafts let little scientists get up close and personal with flowers and fruits, bugs, worms and other garden animals!
Visit Elizabeth’s House
Walk through Elizabeth’s house, built in 1902, and get a look into the early days of Palo Alto. Our house docents are on hand to answer questions and share stories of old. The Santa Clara Chapter of Master Gardeners will be in the library to answer your toughest home gardening questions.
Gamble Garden offers a unique selection of plants for sale at reasonable prices. Pick up a plant that suits your needs, and bring a little piece of Gamble Garden home with you! Knowledgeable staff are on hand to answer your plant questions.
