Each destination on Gamble Garden’s Spring Tour will Inspire.
Gamble Garden invites you to “Be Inspired” by five private gardens on the annual Gamble Garden Spring Tour. The gardens range from a tranquil retreat to an entertainer’s delight, featuring a variety of styles from Mission to modern. Each one is sure to inspire visitors in unique ways with innovative landscaping, striking focal points, and thoughtfully designed gathering places for friends and family. Tickets to the gardens include an invitation to a silent auction, a plant sale, and a curated shopping experience at the historic Gamble Garden on Waverley Street in the heart of Old Palo Alto.
A winding path makes its way throughout this garden, connecting multiple gathering areas with playful touches and eye-catching gems at every turn. Style meets function in curving planter boxes, a grape stake fence, bicycle sculpture, Talavera tile birdbath, and an outdoor art wall. Natural elements offer an abundance of beauty in the form of Columnar Apple trees, swaths of Provence Lavender, and giant redwood trees, to name a few. It all adds up to a garden that’s as pleasing to look at as it is to spend time in.
This sleek, sophisticated garden complements the clean lines of a late 18th century Spanish Colonial Mission while mirroring the homeowner’s own minimalist style. A cool, neutral palette extends throughout the garden, from the Foothill Sedge and Evergreen Eulalia that make up the groundcover, to the cream-colored outdoor fireplace and ecru slabs that form the back patio. Further along, the stark simplicity of a rectangular fountain, surrounded by olive trees and an expanse of gravel, invites quiet reflection.
This historic home features a majestic Deodar cedar, manicured front lawn and alle lined with agapanthus and boxwood. Magnolias and pittosporum shield a side yard from the hustle and bustle of busy University Avenue, creating an oasis that invites recreation and enjoyment. Within the yard, a solar heated pool and pool house provide all the amenities for adult gatherings and teen hangouts. French doors connect the main house to an outdoor terrace and nearby fire pit, allowing for seamless indoor/outdoor living and entertaining.
Love of friends and family is reflected throughout this warm, welcoming home. Reminiscent of a sunny Mediterranean meadow, the front yard greets visitors with soft plants, grasses, and flowers year-round. A custom-designed Art Deco gate, olive trellis, and assorted fruit trees serve a dual purpose, both practical and ornamental. A lap pool and fire pit serve as a focal point for the backyard, drawing guests out from the home’s indoor areas, providing a relaxing space to reconnect with loved ones.
Sleek, modern simplicity, a monochromatic palette, and free-flowing spaces characterize this garden designed for family living. A contoured hillside with a dramatic slice-through defines the property and provides separation for a tranquil retreat amidst the hustle and bustle of Silicon Valley. An in-ground trampoline and zip line are seamlessly incorporated into the landscape, making this a place where children can truly play, while still staying true to the homeowner’s minimalist style.
Tables will be open from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
