This 4-week series of classes will introduce botanical art with colored pencil as the medium.
Bring what pencils you already have. We will experiment with different brands at the first class, and you will receive a list of supplies to gather before the next class. This class is suitable for adults and teens.
Dates
Thursday June 8, 15, 22, 29, from 12:00pm – 3:00pm
Week 1: Principles of colored pencil, supplies used & botanical art. Drawing a simple specimen such as an apple/pear or other fruit or vegetable.
Week 2: Emphasis in greens and related colors in drawing a variety of leaves; simple to complex with variegated colors, folds and curls.
Week 3 & 4: Specimens from the garden using a variety of colors and principles/techniques learned. This series of classes will prepare you for fun, colorful, periodic botanical art classes featuring a variety of specimens in the Gamble gardens!

Instructor Bio
Dorothy Hunter shares that her earliest memories in childhood involved the love flowers! It was around 2001, she began to study botanical art at Filoli and graduated from their Botanical Art Certification program. From there she taught Botanical Art at Filoli, Lady Bird Johnson’s Wildflower Center and the Atherton Arts Foundation. Her medium of choice is colored pencil, but also enjoy watercolor, graphite and pen/ink; as long as it involves botanicals! She feels Gamble Garden is an ideal location to begin a botanical art program because of the incredible gardens that offer beautiful specimens year around.
